Victoria’s Nepalese Celebrate Bal Diwas

Bal Diwas, or “Children’s Day,” was celebrated by Victoria’s Nepalese community at Coburg Town Hall on Sunday, 15 September.


Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, who attended as Chief Guest, said that he is happy to see increased participation at Bal Diwas celebrations each year.

Consul General Yonzon thanked volunteers, performers, and Nepalese Association of Victoria (NAV) for organising the event. Bal Diwas celebrations, which this year included a fashion parade, national anthems and children’s talent shows, is held annually to raise awareness of the rights, care and education of children.

Chandra Yonzon Attends Inaugural Consuls-General Program in Kathmandu

Hon. Consul General, Chandra Yonzon, joined over 40 Nepalese honorary consuls, consuls and consuls-general for the Foreign Ministry’s promoting Nepal program held at Annapurna Hotel, Kathmandu on 26-27 June 2019. The two-day program was the first of its kind aimed at providing Nepalese representatives internationally with insight into various aspects of economic diplomacy including trade, investment, tourism and foreign employment.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Rt. Hon. Pradeep Gyawali, discussed Nepal’s recent achievements in political and socio-economic development. Hon. Gyawali advised the further promotion of Nepal’s economic diplomacy in line with the national campaign of ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali,’ and the development priorities of the Nepalese government.

Chandra Yonzon Attends Fundraising Dinner

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, and his wife, Laxmi Yonzon, joined Members of Parliament, Councillors, community organization representatives and community leaders at the Multicultural Fundraising Dinner with Hon. Peter Khalil on Saturday, 27 April 2019.

The dinner saw addresses and cultural performances, as well as a minute’s silence for the victims of the Easter Sunday Sri Lanka bombings.

In his address, Consul General Yonzon highlighted that Australia’s Nepalese is the fastest growing community in the country, with Nepalese students accounting for the 3rd largest international student cohort in Australia.

Chandra Yonzon Attends DFAT Reception

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon चन्द्रयोन्जन, attended the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) end-of-year reception at the Immigration Museum in Melbourne’s CBD on Wednesday, 12 December 2018.

Mr Yonzon enjoyed networking with Consular Corps colleagues and appreciated the performance by Dhungala Children’s Choir and Short Black Opera Soloist Soprano, Shauntai Batzke.

Chandra Yonzon Hosts Daishan Celebrations at RGIT

Daishan, one of Nepal’s most auspicious and celebrated festivals, was celebrated at the Nepal consulate office on Monday, 22 October 2018. Facilitated by Nepal consulate office staff, Dashain 2075 BS (2018 AD) celebrations saw in attendance consulate office staff, as well as Nepalese students studying at Royal Gurkhas Institute of Technology (RGIT) Australia’s Melbourne Campus.

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, said that Daishan celebrations at the consulate provided a wonderful opportunity for RGIT Australia’s international Nepalese students to celebrate the festival, many of whom are studying away from family and loved ones in Nepal.

Chandra Yonzon Attends Glenroy Library Nepalese Section Opening

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, and his wife, Laxmi Yonzon, attended an official handover of Nepalese literature to Glenroy Library on Wednesday, 25 September 2018. The handover made part of the official opening of a Nepalese-dedicated section at the library.

Consul General Yonzon, who attended as Chief Guest, joined over 100 Nepalese and Bhutanese community members at the ceremony. In his address, Consul General Yonzon thanked Didi Bahini Samaj Victoria’s (DBSV) collaboration with library staff in establishing the Nepalese section, and said that he enjoys attending DBSV programs which never fail to promote the interests of the community.
