Victoria’s Nepalese Celebrate Bal Diwas

Bal Diwas, or “Children’s Day,” was celebrated by Victoria’s Nepalese community at Coburg Town Hall on Sunday, 15 September.


Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, who attended as Chief Guest, said that he is happy to see increased participation at Bal Diwas celebrations each year.

Consul General Yonzon thanked volunteers, performers, and Nepalese Association of Victoria (NAV) for organising the event. Bal Diwas celebrations, which this year included a fashion parade, national anthems and children’s talent shows, is held annually to raise awareness of the rights, care and education of children.

Chandra Yonzon Attends Inaugural Consuls-General Program in Kathmandu

Hon. Consul General, Chandra Yonzon, joined over 40 Nepalese honorary consuls, consuls and consuls-general for the Foreign Ministry’s promoting Nepal program held at Annapurna Hotel, Kathmandu on 26-27 June 2019. The two-day program was the first of its kind aimed at providing Nepalese representatives internationally with insight into various aspects of economic diplomacy including trade, investment, tourism and foreign employment.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Rt. Hon. Pradeep Gyawali, discussed Nepal’s recent achievements in political and socio-economic development. Hon. Gyawali advised the further promotion of Nepal’s economic diplomacy in line with the national campaign of ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali,’ and the development priorities of the Nepalese government.

Chandra Yonzon Attends Fundraising Dinner

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, and his wife, Laxmi Yonzon, joined Members of Parliament, Councillors, community organization representatives and community leaders at the Multicultural Fundraising Dinner with Hon. Peter Khalil on Saturday, 27 April 2019.

The dinner saw addresses and cultural performances, as well as a minute’s silence for the victims of the Easter Sunday Sri Lanka bombings.

In his address, Consul General Yonzon highlighted that Australia’s Nepalese is the fastest growing community in the country, with Nepalese students accounting for the 3rd largest international student cohort in Australia.

Badri Pangeni, Subodh Gautam and Manash Raj Welcomed at Nepal Consulate Office

Well-known Nepalese singers, Badri Pangeni, Subodh Gautam and Manash Raj, were welcomed with traditional khada shawls by Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, at the Nepal consulate office on Thursday, 18 April 2019.

Consul General Yonzon thanked the RWC team for making the session possible and thanked the singers for their contributions to the music industry.

The artists are in Melbourne to perform in the New Year Dhamaka program at Cyprus Hall on Friday, 19 April.

Craigieburn Nepalese Community New Year Celebrations

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, along with his wife, Laxmi Yonzon, was honoured to participate in Nepalese new year celebrations organised by Craigieburn Nepalese Community (CNC) Victoria on Sunday, 14 April 2019.

Nepal Idol Celebrities Welcome Session at Consulate Office

Nepal Idol Season 2 ‘Top 6’ finalists, along with series’ host, Rima Biswokarma, were welcomed by Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, at the Nepal consulate office in Melbourne on Monday, 18 February 2019.

Among the Top 6 were the singing competition’s winner, Ravi Oad, as well as Amit Baral, Bikram Baral, Asmita Adhikari, Sumit Pathak, and Pawan Giri. The celebrities were pleased interact with Nepalese community members and consulate staff at the session.

Consul General Yonzon took the opportunity to welcome the team at his office and thanked Smart Access Events, Movies and MediaJoshi Sun and team for making the session possible.

International Student Induction at Nepal Consulate Office

Over 45 international students attended an induction session for newly arrived students to Australia at the Nepal consulate office on Sunday, 17 February.

Three presentations introduced students to their obligations and dealing with their education provider (by RTO quality and compliance expert, Sudhir Shakya; road and water safety (by civil engineer, Nirajan Gauli), and overseas health cover and dealing with insurance companies (by Raj Sharma).

Non-Resident Nepalese Association (NRNA) Victoria Coordinator, Keshav Kandel, welcomed students and spoke of NRNA Victoria’s commitment to educating international students on their rights, obligations and safety. The program was MC’d by NRNA Secretary, Gautam Lamicahnne, and concluded by Youth Coordinator, Suman Adhikari.
