Seven Women Australia’s Fundraising Event

Seven Women Australia, an NGO, held a fundraising event for the Nepal Earthquake victims on Friday 19 June 2015. This event included a sale of handmade products by the members of the association, a raffle and an auction. Around $15,000 was raised through the help of its generous patrons the same evening.

The founder, Ms. Stephanie Woollard, described the NGO which procures hand-knitted and sewn products from Nepal and sells them in Australia. The proceeds are then sent to benefit the women in Nepal. In addition, literacy classes are also held for these women. Speaking on this occasion, the Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria expressed his gratitude to the organising committee and the members of Seven Women for their fundraising efforts. He mentioned that this reflected the support and solidarity between various communities in Australia for Nepal and its people, during these difficult times. He also mentioned that the Nepal Consulate, along with the Nepalese community organisations, is working tirelessly on the efforts in rebuilding the nation. The amount raised through this fundraising would be utilised by the volunteers of Seven Women Australia to rebuild houses in two villages, namely Bettini and Chitling.

The Honorary Consul General personally donated $ 500 for this cause during the event in addition to his previously committed contribution of Australian $ 20,000 plus, contributed to various organizations working in aid of the Nepal Earthquake victims.

Mr Sudhir Shakya- President of NAV and other Nepalese community members were also present at the event, to support Seven Women.

The event was organized at a popular CBD venue “Apartment” owned by the Nepali couple, Sunny and Sanushka Rajbhandary.
