Nepal Fundraising & Breakfast with Minister

On the 3rd of September 2015, the Hon. Consul General attended a fundraising breakfast, organized by Mr. Rampal Muthyala, Treasurer for Liberal Party Bentleigh SEC, and co-hosted by DosaHut Restaurant, a popular Indian restaurant in Footscray. The breakfast event raised funds for the victims of the Nepal earthquake, whilst simultaneously celebrating the 64th birthday of the Hon. Minister for Trade & Investment, Mr. Andrew Robb AO, and MP.

The Hon. Minister, Mr.Andrew Robb AO and the Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Mr. Chandra Yonzon, were given a traditional welcome by wrapping a silk shawl followed by flower bouquets. Invited guests, including Mr. Marcus Bastiaan, Liberal Party Chair of Goldstein FEC; Mr. Chris Doutre, CEO, Passage Foods; Mr. Amarneni, CEO, Bright Impex; Mr. Aloke Kumar, Director, Thornbury Theatre; the Presidents of Telugu Associations – TAAI, MTF and ATAI; Mr. Jasbir Singh, Sikh Community Leader, among other prominent South Asian members and media, were treated to speeches from Mr. Andrew Robb AO, and the Hon. Consul General. The Minister empathized with the victims of the Nepal Earthquake, and spoke of the sad loss of lives, heritage and culture sites in Nepal, drawing parallels to the Earthquake in New Zealand of a similar magnitude. He also mentioned that he was glad to be involved in this fundraiser. The Hon. Consul General spoke of his gratitude for the solidarity extended by guests at the event towards those affected in Nepal.

Following the speeches and the cutting of the cake, an auction and a raffle raised eight thousand dollars, which will be transferred to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund in Nepal. The amount will directly aid the victims of the Nepal earthquake. The event concluded with the Minister presenting ten Certificates of Appreciation to attendees from South Asian communities for their commitment to service in Australia.
