Nepal established diplomatic relationship with Australia on 15 February 1960. A residential embassy of Nepal was established in March 2007. The Nepal Embassy is located in Canberra, the capital city of Australia.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Nepal to Australia

HE Lucky Sherpa was the first female graduate from the Sherpa community to hold a Master’s Degree in Economics, topping her class in 2001 at Patan Campus of Tribhuvan University. She is a former elected member of the Constituent Assembly and Parliament of Nepal (from 2008 to 2012), and is also first among her Sherpa community to reach the politburo level in the party politics of Nepal. While in Parliament, HE Sherpa was a legislative member of International relations and human right committee under Legislative Parliament.

HE Sherpa recently made history when she was the first indigenous woman appointed as an Ambassador from the Government of Nepal on the recommendation of Council Ministers by President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Thursday, 18 May 2017. On Tuesday 27 June 2017, Ms Sherpa presented her credentials to the Right Honourable Governor General.
