Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, attended an International Student Project Consultation held at Nepal Consulate Office board room in Melbourne on Wednesday, 13 September 2017. Consultation outcomes included Non-Resident Nepalese Association (NRNA) Australia and Nepalese Association of Victoria’s (NAV) plan to act as stakeholders of a holistic and collaborative Nepalese government representation in Australia. Together, a united Embassy and consular representation will work with Nepalese community organisations, liaising with Nepalese Education Consultants and international students in realising shared goals of assisting international students, Nepalese in Nepal, as well as Australia’s Nepalese community.
The Consultation saw in attendance NRNA Australia President, Tonnou Ghothane, NRNA Victoria Coordinator, Keshav Kandel, NRNA ICC Member, Rishi Kandel, NAV Executive Committee Member, Dhawa Lama, NAV Current Adviser, Deepa Rai, NAV Current Adviser, Surendra Shedhai, Education and Migration Consultant, Mahesh Bhandari, media personnel from ENepal News, Manoj Paudyal, Nepali Times Melbourne, Niru Tripathi, as well as students Pramod Subedi, Safal Devkota, Anita Poudel, Jyoti Khanal and Pratima Bhatta.
One of the key points of address was for the community to surpass the belief that Embassy and Consulates and Consulates-General of Nepal in Australia merely issue visas and passports. Instead, Embassy and Consulates’ undertaking of many duties offering a wide range of services to the community should be promoted in order to let it be known that we are here to work with and liaise with the community on a wide range of issues.
The International Student Project Consultation comes following a consultation held at Embassy of Nepal in Canberra on Tuesday, 29 August 2017, in which Consuls and Consuls-General met with Ambassador HE Sherpa to discuss consular operations and Australia-Nepal relations. Mr Yonzon’s International Student Project Consultation comes only weeks after his meeting with colleagues in Canberra, and is only one of two planned consultations this week, with a consultation to discuss the establishment of a Nepalese Business Chamber in Melbourne scheduled to be held this evening.
