The Hon. Consul General to Victoria, Mr Chandra Yonzon, and his wife, Mrs Laxmi Yonzon, attended a fundraising dinner on the auspicious occasion of Nepali New Year 2074. The dinner, with the aim of raising money for a Nepali community centre, was organised by the Australian Nepal Multicultural Centre (ANMC), and was held at Estonia House on Monday 17 April.

In his address, the Hon. Consul General emphasised the need for a centre for the Nepali community. The Hon. Consul General said that he was happy to see everybody working towards the founding of a hall, saying that such a space for the community would be an investment for future generations. He said that he was delighted to see his dream of a Nepali community centre finally becoming a reality, and solicited everyone’s support towards the noble cause. The Hon. Consul General and his wife pledged their largest personal contribution of $50,000 towards the fund last year at the ANMC’s first fundraising gala dinner for a community centre on Friday 24 June 2016.

At this week’s dinner, the Hon. Consul General acknowledged his wife’s constant support, and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the community for their trust in him, and for their continued love and support. Several attendees signed up for life membership, contributed personal funds, and expressed solidarity with the cause. The night was agreed as having been a huge success by both organisers and guests.
