Former Nepal Prime Minister passed away

The Nepal Consulate in Victoria wishes to inform you with utmost regret that former Prime Minister, Sushil Koirala breathed his last in the early hours of Tuesday morning. He succumbed to complications arising from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and pneumonia. He was 77.


Koirala was elected Prime Minister of Nepal on February 10, 2014, having entered politics in 1954. He was also the former president of the Nepali Congress party.

Nepal is currently in mourning. The nation has lost a loyal statesman, an astute politician and a veteran party worker. His demise has left an irreparable loss and a deep void in the world of politics.

On behalf of the Nepalese community in Victoria, the Nepal Consulate offers its deepest condolences to the Government of Nepal and the people of Nepal on this sad occasion.

A condolence book will be opened at the Consulate Office and is available for the members of the community and representatives of foreign consulates to sign.
