‘Everest Women for Education’ fundraiser

7 Summits Women, in partnership with Aussie Action Abroad, successfully organised ‘Everest Women for Education’ informative session and fundraising event at Thornbury Theatre on Sunday, 10 March 2018. The program featured Nepalese Everest summiteers, Shallie Basnet and Maya Gurung, who shared their stories of working in earthquake affected communities.

Chief Guest, Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, officially welcomed guests with traditional khada before speaking of their noble efforts.

During the program, Ms Basnet and Ms Gurung shared stores of their experiences climbing Mount Everest, and spoke of the work of the 7 Summits Women. A presentation led by the women showed their work with Sindupalcjok villagers in helping to rebuild houses following the earthquake. At the end of the presentation, they said that,

You may forget who Shaille is, and you may forget who Maya is, but you will always remember who the 7 Summits Women are.

They said that each and every success is a result of teamwork, and that without teamwork, nothing would be possible. Attendees enjoyed live performances by Punam Thapa and Prakash Thapa, with the program concluding with auction and raffles.
