Community celebrates Holi

Madheshi Community in Victoria (MCV) celebrated Holi, the “festival of colours”, with almost 50 guests in attendance at Coburg Lake on Saturday, 10 March 2018. The Madheshi, a southern Nepalese community, celebrates the event similar to Chhat and Maghe Sankrati annually in accordance with tradition and religious practices.


Chief Guest, Hon. Peter Khalil, addressed attendees and spoke of his close relationship with Victoria’s Nepalese community. He spoke of his delight in taking part in the celebrations, and wished everybody a Happy Holi in Nepalese.


Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, attended as Special Guest, accompanied by his wife, Laxmi Yonzon. Addressing the event, Consul General wished everybody a Happy Holi, and expressed for his wish for the community to always share in life’s beautiful, colourful moments. Consul General said that he is always pleased to support and attend Madeshi community’s programs.


Non-Resident Nepalese Association (NRNA), Nepalese Association of Victoria (NAV) were among other Nepalese community organisation in attendance at the program who enjoyed the music and live dance performances.
