Friday 2 May 2017 – The Embassy of Nepal in Canberra, in association with the Consulate General of Nepal in Victoria, hosted the Nepal Tourism Promotion Night 2017 at Mantra Bell City, Melbourne, on Wednesday 31 May 2017. The annual showcase event, which has been running since 2008, is targeted towards Australian travel agents and tour operators, and is aimed at promoting travel and tourism to Nepal.

The Embassy of Nepal, Canberra, in association with the Consulate of Nepal in Victoria hosted Nepal Tourism Promotion Night-2016 on Friday, 15 July 2016 at the Big belly Asian café, in Melbourne. The event was organized with the objective of promoting Nepal as a travel destination for holidaymakers and adventure seekers in the travel and tourism sector in Australia.

The Nepal Consulate in Victoria wishes to inform you with utmost regret that former Prime Minister, Sushil Koirala breathed his last in the early hours of Tuesday morning. He succumbed to complications arising from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and pneumonia. He was 77.

NEPALESE URGED TO EXERCISE CAUTION GOING INTO DEEP WATER

There has been several cases of tragic drowning incidents recently within the Nepalese community in Australia.

A Nepalese man living in Victoria lost his life in the Alfred hospital, Melbourne after being rescued from drowning in Woolamai beach in Phillip Island on Sunday, 10th January 2016. This accident occurred when a group of friends, including the deceased himself, were on an evening trip to the Phillip Island beach. Four of them along with the deceased were standing knee-deep in water when suddenly a rip current swept them into the sea. A total of 17 off-duty lifeguards and lifesavers assisted in the rescue; sadly, two people lost their lives in the hospital- one of them was a 27 year old Nepalese man.

Nepal Now, a Nepal Tourism promotion event in Australia

12 August 2015, Melbourne - The Ministry of Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation (Nepal) and the Nepal Tourism Board are holding a Nepal Tourism promotion in Australia. Titled Nepal Now, this is a joint exercise, in association with the Nepal Embassy in Australia and the Nepal Consulate, Melbourne.

Scheduled to be held in Melbourne on Tuesday 18 August 2015 and in Sydney on Thursday 20 August 2015, this will see the active participation of the Nepal Tourism Secretary, Suresh Man Shrestha, Joint Secretary-Tourism and the Chairman, Nepal Tourism Board, Nepal’s Ambassador to Australia and the Honorary Consul General of Nepal to Victoria and many others.

Consulate of Nepal seeks support as earthquake strikes Nepal again

13 May 2015, Melbourne – Nepal suffered yet another major earthquake, 7.3 on the Richter scale, around noon on Tuesday, 12 May 2015. This has been followed by at least six aftershocks above 5.0 magnitude or higher. The epicentre of the main earthquake was approximately 76 KM east of Kathmandu with ripple effects to parts of Northern India, Bangladesh and Tibet. This is the second largest earthquake of such magnitude since the last one occurred in Nepal on 25 April 2015.  As a result of the quake, more than 40 people are believed to be dead and 1,100 injured. Both estimates are expected to climb as the rescue operation expands.  Adding to the misery, the Nepalese residing outside Nepal along with the entire world communities are further shocked by this devastating news as media images flood in and further danger looms.
