Chandra Yonzon Meets with Anil Singh

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, was pleased to welcome Nepalese singer and pop star, Anil Singh, to the Nepal consulate office on Monday, 15 October 2018.

Consul General Yonzon presented him with ceremonial khada, as per tradition. They discussed Melbourne’s highlights as well as some tourist attractions in Victoria which Mr Singh may be interested in visiting during his stay. Consul General Yonzon commended Mr Singh for his efforts in the Nepalese entertainment industry and wish him all the best with his future career.

Community members were delighted to attend the session and meet with the popular singer.

Chandra Yonzon Attends Bal Diwas Celebration

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, and his wife, Laxmi Yonzon, attended Bal Diwas celebrations organised by the Nepalese Association of Victoria on Sunday, 14 October 2018. The event, held at Brunswick Town Hall, was a wonderful celebration which included various cultural activities such as talent shows, face painting and an art competitions.

NAV and community members made special contributions to the program with various displays and performances. Consul General Yonzon thanked NAV for celebrating Bal Diwas each year which has helped to preserve Nepalese culture, language and identity. He also thanked parents for their role in encouraging their children to embrace Nepalese language and culture.

Chandra Yonzon Attends NJSSA BBQ

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, and his wife, Laxmi Yonzon, were pleased to attend the Nepali Jana Samparka Samiti Australia (NJSSA) barbeque at Coburg Park on Saturday, 13 October 2018. The barbeque was held to celebrate Dashain, Tihar, Mha Pja and Chhath.

NJSSA hosts regular barbeques aimed at bringing together diverse communities during the festival season. Consul General Yonzon spoke at the event and recognised the festival as a marvellous opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends. Consul General Yonzon wished everyone a prosperous Bijaya Dashami and said he looks forward to upcoming festivals in the near future.

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, was pleased to meet with the newly appointed trade manager for South Asia at Trade Victoria, James Edwards, at the Nepal consulate office on Thursday, 11 October 2018.

Consul General Yonzon and Mr Edwards discussed the trade relationship between Victoria and Nepal. They exchanged ideas on how to further build on the relationship between Nepal and Victoria, and opportunities in strengthening trade ties.

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, was pleased to meet with National Indigenous Women’s Federation (NIWF) Chairperson, Chini Maya Majhi on Friday, 12 October 2018.

Mrs Mahji has worked on women’s empowerment projects since 2000, and has worked tirelessly to ensure positive outcomes for her community. The Nepal consulate office is proud of her efforts to support social welfare as well as marginalised communities, and looks forward to working with her in the near future.

Chandra Yonzon Attends AAPoly Graduation Ceremony

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, attended the Eagles Awards Ceremony for the Academies Australasia Polytechnic at Melbourne Town Hall on Thursday, 4 October 2018.

Consul General Yonzon was pleased to see large a number of Nepalese students in attendance who also delivered speeches at the ceremony. Students spoke of their experiences whilst studying and were congratulated on their numerous achievements.

Chandra Yonzon Meets with VicRoads Representatives

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, and consulate staff met with VicRoads representatives at the Nepal consulate office on Monday, 15 October 2018. The meeting provided the opportunity for the consulate to discuss Victoria’s Nepalese community and the recognition of Nepalese driver’s licenses. The consulate and VicRoads discussed a plan to help facilitate the process of gaining recognition for Nepalese driver’s licences in Victoria.

In both Australia and Nepal, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day is hugely celebrated and is one of the biggest festivals for people to show respect for their parents. Australian Nepalese Senior Citizen Society Inc (ANSCS) celebrates Mother’s Day and Father’s Day every year, which creates a sense of belonging for seniors and allows them to be associated with the community, which is really necessary for all seniors. Chandra Yonzon Attends Glenroy Library Nepalese Section Opening

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, and his wife, Laxmi Yonzon, attended an official handover of Nepalese literature to Glenroy Library on Wednesday, 25 September 2018. The handover made part of the official opening of a Nepalese-dedicated section at the library.

Consul General Yonzon, who attended as Chief Guest, joined over 100 Nepalese and Bhutanese community members at the ceremony. In his address, Consul General Yonzon thanked Didi Bahini Samaj Victoria’s (DBSV) collaboration with library staff in establishing the Nepalese section, and said that he enjoys attending DBSV programs which never fail to promote the interests of the community.
