Victoria’s Nepalese Celebrate Bal Diwas

Bal Diwas, or “Children’s Day,” was celebrated by Victoria’s Nepalese community at Coburg Town Hall on Sunday, 15 September.


Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, who attended as Chief Guest, said that he is happy to see increased participation at Bal Diwas celebrations each year.

Consul General Yonzon thanked volunteers, performers, and Nepalese Association of Victoria (NAV) for organising the event. Bal Diwas celebrations, which this year included a fashion parade, national anthems and children’s talent shows, is held annually to raise awareness of the rights, care and education of children.

Geelong and Biratnagar Mayors Discuss Sister City Relationship

Biratnagar Metropolitan City Mayor, Bhim Parajuli, was welcomed by City of Greater Geelong Mayor Councillor, Bruce Harwood, at Geelong City Hall on Monday, 12 August.

Mayor Parajuli raised the possibility of the establishment of a sister city relationship between Geelong and Biratnagar citing geographical, cultural and economic similarities between the two cities. Mayor Parajuli also shared insight into Biratnagar’s ethnically and linguistically diverse community.

Mayor Parajuli and Mayor Cr Hardwood said that they look forward to exploring how a sister city relationship has the potential to mutually benefit both cities culturally and economically. The delegates exchanged gifts before concluding with group photographs.

Miss World Nepal 2019 Welcomed at Consulate Office

Miss World Nepal 2019, Anushka Shrestha, was welcomed at the office of the Consulate General of Nepal to Victoria, Melbourne on Monday, 15 July.

Speaking with Hon. Consul General, Chandra Yonzon, Miss Shrestha shared her passion for community work, her project and journey to Miss Nepal. Miss Shrestha also discussed a program held in Melbourne on Sunday, where she fund-raised for community education in sustainable livelihoods for the Tamang community in Sindhupalchock District. Miss Shrestha is set to represent Nepal at Miss World 2019 pageant in London in December later this year.

Chandra Yonzon Attends Inaugural Consuls-General Program in Kathmandu

Hon. Consul General, Chandra Yonzon, joined over 40 Nepalese honorary consuls, consuls and consuls-general for the Foreign Ministry’s promoting Nepal program held at Annapurna Hotel, Kathmandu on 26-27 June 2019. The two-day program was the first of its kind aimed at providing Nepalese representatives internationally with insight into various aspects of economic diplomacy including trade, investment, tourism and foreign employment.

Nepal Consulate Office Welcomes Rabi Lamichhane to Melbourne

The Nepalese media personality, Rabi Lamichhane, his wife Nikita Poudel and their team visited the Nepal Consulate Office of Victoria on Thursday 30 May 2019.


Hon. Consul General Mr Chandra Yonzon welcomed the team offering Khada, a Nepalese token of love and an Australian Boomerang, as a sentimental gift to remember their visit. The meeting took place in advance for the following nights’ fundraiser dinner for ‘Raskot Community Hospital’ in Kalikot, North-west Nepal.


The welcome programme was attended by different Nepali community members, leaders, entrepreneurs and media personnel.
