Gagan Thapa MP and Consul General Chandra Yonzon Attend Interaction Session

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon चन्द्र योन्जन, along with his wife, Laxmi Yonzon, were delighted to attend an interaction session organised by Nepali Janasampark Samiti Australia on Sunday, 13 January 2019.

Mr Yonzon was delighted to speak alongside the session’s Chief Guest, former Health Minister and Congress Youth Leader, Gagan Thapa MP.

Mr Yonzon praised the great work of Gagan Thapa as Health Minister and presented his best wishes for his future career.

Nepal Festival Melbourne 2018 Volunteers Appreciation BBQ

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon (चन्द्र योन्जन), was honoured to deliver a speech at a Volunteers Appreciation Program at Coburg Lake on Saturday, 12 January 2019.


The program was held to express appreciation to organisers and volunteers of Nepal Festival Melbourne 2018, which was held in Federation Square on Saturday, 15 December 2018.

Consul General Yonzon commended the tireless efforts of all involved in making Nepal Festival Melbourne 2018 a success, including interstate and overseas guests, artists, Australian and Nepalese government officials, media personnel and participants.

Nepalese Book Launch in Melbourne

Community members were pleased to attended the book launch of author, Biyogi Budathoki’s muktak sangrah (Nepalese poem), Muktak Mallika at Coburg Library on Sunday, 6 January 2019.

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, addressed attendees at the launch, hosted by Sahitik Sangeet Jamghat Australia. He congratulated and wished his best to Mr Budhathoki, and expressed his desire to see more Nepalese literature in Melbourne for all literature lovers. He also acknowledged and appreciated Sahitik Jamghat Australia for the opportunity and for promoting Nepalese literature and language in Victoria since its establishment.

Chandra Yonzon Attends Yeti FC Gala Dinner and Presentation Night

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, attended Yeti Football Club’s annual gala dinner and presentation night accompanied by his wife, Laxmi Yonzon, at Cyprus Community Hall on Saturday, 5 January 2019.

Chandra Yonzon Meets Surendra Pandey

Hon. Consul General Chandra Yonzon met with former Nepalese Finance minister and current member of the Nepalese Constituent Assembly, Mr. Surendra Pandey on Monday 3rd December 2018.

At the meeting, Consul General Yonzon and Mr. Pandey discussed the similarities and differences between Australia and Nepal’s political systems. Mr. Pandey also discussed his time as the finance minister as well as the challenges he faced in that position.

Mr. Pandey is a standing committee member for the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and represents the Chitwan-1 constituency in Nepal. He has written three books and is considered an economic reformer due to his time as finance minister from 2009-2011.

Hon. Consul General for Nepal to Victoria Chandra Yonzon and his wife Mrs. Laxmi Yonzon attended the Australian Nepalese Multicultural Centre (ANMC) Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on 25th of November at 231 – 251 Mt Alexander Road Ascot Vale.


Speaking at the AGM, Consul General thanked all the ANMC members for working hard and also encouraged all to be courageous and keep trying their best to achieve the goal. He also requested all to be united and work together and to disregard politics while working in the team as the community centre is our collective dream and we all want to see it comes true soon.

Driver’s Licence Recognition Evening

The Consulate General of Nepal to Victoria, in association with VicRoads, hosted a Nepalese Driver’s Licence Recognition Evening for community members on Monday, 19 November 2018 at the Nepal Consulate Office.

The aim of the program was to provide Nepalese community members in Victoria with a better understanding of how to receive recognition for their Nepalese driver’s licences in Victoria. Further road safety and general safety matters were also presented by members of Victoria Police.

Chandra Yonzon Attends Chhath Puja Celebrations

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, and his wife, Laxmi Yonzon, attended Chhath Puja at Edwardes Lake, Reservoir on Tuesday, 13 November 2018. In his address, Consul General Yonzon applauded devotees and those who fasted for up to 36 hours. He expressed thanks to Madheshi Community in Victoria for organising Chhath Puja celebrations each year, and for the wonderful event held on Tuesday.

Chhath Puja celebrations are predominately held in southern parts of Nepal but festivities are held in many other parts of the world. Rituals are observed over four days, which include fasting, with the third day being the main festival day.
