On May 9th, 2019 the Nepal consulate office, Melbourne and Nepalese community members welcomed international NRNA-ICC (Non-Resident Nepalese Association-International Coordination Council) delegates.

Chandra Yonzon Attends Fundraising Dinner

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, and his wife, Laxmi Yonzon, joined Members of Parliament, Councillors, community organization representatives and community leaders at the Multicultural Fundraising Dinner with Hon. Peter Khalil on Saturday, 27 April 2019.

The dinner saw addresses and cultural performances, as well as a minute’s silence for the victims of the Easter Sunday Sri Lanka bombings.


In his address, Consul General Yonzon highlighted that Australia’s Nepalese is the fastest growing community in the country, with Nepalese students accounting for the 3rd largest international student cohort in Australia.

Chandra Yonzon Commemorates Anzac Day 2019

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, commemorated Anzac Day on Thursday, 25 April 2019.

Consul General Yonzon – along with Nepalese Gurkhas veterans, their children and grandchildren – joined families of Anzacs, veterans, and servicemen and women in the annual commemorative march.

In Australia on Anzac Day, Australians remember the past, reflect on the present, and, most solemnly, honour those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms they enjoy today.

25 April marks the date when the Allied landings took place on the Gallipoli Peninsula in 1915. The Nepalese Gurkhas, too, share a special affinity with 25 April, as four Gurkha battalions also fought bravely in the Gallipoli Campaign.

Jeevan Sharma Welcomed at Nepal Consulate Office

Well-known Nepalese singer and songwriter, Jeevan Sharma, was welcomed with a traditional khada shawl and gift by Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, at the Nepal consulate office on Tuesday, 23 April 2019.

Hon. Consul General Yonzon acknowledged Mr Sharma’s contributions to the Nepalese music industry and his efforts in raising awareness of marginalised communities through music.

Mr Sharma’s visit to Australia saw a performance at the Nepal Festival in Adelaide last weekend, and due to popular demand is traveling other states in Australia.

Well-known Nepalese singers, Badri Pangeni, Subodh Gautam and Manash Raj, were welcomed with traditional khada shawls by Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, at the Nepal consulate office on Thursday, 18 April 2019.

Consul General Yonzon thanked the RWC team for making the session possible and thanked the singers for their contributions to the music industry.

The artists are in Melbourne to perform in the New Year Dhamaka program at Cyprus Hall on Friday, 19 April.

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, along with his wife, Laxmi Yonzon, was honoured to participate in Nepalese new year celebrations organised by Craigieburn Nepalese Community (CNC) Victoria on Sunday, 14 April 2019.


Consul General Yonzon, who attended as Chief Guest, joined over 80 Craigieburn Nepalese community members at the event. In his address, he congratulated the newly elected committee members and wished all a Happy New Year.

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, and his wife, Laxmi Yonzon, were delighted to attend the 3rd annual New and Emerging Communities Festival at Belle Vue Park, Glenroy on Saturday, 30 March 2019.

The festival was aimed at celebrating and embracing Australia’s multiculturalism, diversity and common values. The festival showcased an opening harmony parade and multicultural performances, children’s activities such as face painting and games, a sports clinic and cultural food stalls.

Chandra Yonzon Attends Safety Information Session

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, attended an informative session on road safety, water safety and home/car safety in Glenroy on Saturday, 23 March 2019.The event has been organised by Australia Nepal Public Link (ANPL).

The session was aimed at raising awareness of the importance of road safety, safety in and around water as well as home and car safety. Consul General Yonzon highlighted the importance of raising awareness of such issues following the recent tragic fatalities of Nepalese nationals in such circumstances.

In addition, Consul General commended the work of Australia Nepal Public Link (ANPL) President, Nirajan Gauli, and ANPL team and associated bodies for organising such a great event.
