Community celebrates Holi

Madheshi Community in Victoria (MCV) celebrated Holi, the “festival of colours”, with almost 50 guests in attendance at Coburg Lake on Saturday, 10 March 2018. The Madheshi, a southern Nepalese community, celebrates the event similar to Chhat and Maghe Sankrati annually in accordance with tradition and religious practices.

Chief Guest, Hon. Peter Khalil, addressed attendees and spoke of his close relationship with Victoria’s Nepalese community. He spoke of his delight in taking part in the celebrations, and wished everybody a Happy Holi in Nepalese.

‘Everest Women for Education’ fundraiser

7 Summits Women, in partnership with Aussie Action Abroad, successfully organised ‘Everest Women for Education’ informative session and fundraising event at Thornbury Theatre on Sunday, 10 March 2018. The program featured Nepalese Everest summiteers, Shallie Basnet and Maya Gurung, who shared their stories of working in earthquake affected communities.

International Women’s Day 2018

Each year, Didi Bahini Samaj Victoria (DBSV) celebrates International Women’s Day with full dedication and empowerment. Likewise, Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, and his wife, Laxmi Yonzon, are always please to attend, and this year’s celebrations organised by DBSV on Saturday, 3 March, were no different. Victorian Parliament and Khil Raj Regmi Consulate Visits

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, Chairman of the Council of Ministers (de facto Prime Minister of Nepal 2013-2014) former Chief Justice of Nepal, Khil Raj Regmi, and members of the community met with Legislative Council President, Hon. Bruce Atkinson, at Victoria Parliament House on Thursday, 22 February 2018.

Special Guests Welcomed at Consulate Office

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, and his wife, Laxmi Yonzon, were delighted to welcome spiritual Guru and astrologer, Bhimsen Sapkota, senior renowned journalist, Prem Baniya, and Nagarik Samuha Nepal President, Nigam Humagain, to the office of the Consulate General of Nepal to Victoria today, 20 February 2018.

NAV Cricket Tournament Final

Hon. Consul General of Nepal, Chandra Yonzon, along with his wife, Laxmi Yonzon, attended the 13th edition of Nepalese Association of Victoria’s (NAV) Cricket Tournament Final on Monday, 19 February 2018.

Consul General Yonzon attended the awards ceremony along with cup’s title sponsor, Expert Consultancy, along with prominent community leaders and supporters. The Royal Rhino won the match, and players were awarded prizes for a range of categories. The day also saw a friendly match between the NAV Executive Committee and the Melbourne Nepalese Corporate Team.

In his address, Consul General Yonzon commended the winning team and extended his best wishes to all teams, wishing them success in future tournaments.

Consul General attends appreciation lunch

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, along with his wife, Laxmi Yonzon, attended an event organised by Tamang Society of Australia to show appreciation to volunteers and media partners on Saturday, 10 February 2018.

The events comes following a successful Sonam Lhosar on the week prior on 3 February 2018. Consul General Yonzon had the honour of handing out certificates to volunteers and media partners and joined attendees in applauding their tireless efforts.

Kalika Prasad Bhandari interactive session

An interactive session with Kalika Prasad Bhandari, organised by Non-Resident Nepalese Association (NRNA) of Victoria,was held at the Nepal Consulate Office of Victoria on Friday, 2 February 2018. Discussions at the session surrounded Mr Bhadari’s campaign to make Nepal ‘high all over the world’ through para-cycling.

With a tremendous community attendance, participants in the session listened to Mr Bhandari describe his aspirations for Nepalese with disabilities, and for his foundation in Nepal. It is his hope that the foundation can help to change societal attitudes of people with disabilities as well as improve the limited assistance they receive. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Chandra Yonzon, was honoured to welcome Nepalese singers Pramod Kharel, Prakash Saput, Samjana Lamichhane Magar and actress Purnima Lama, to the Nepal Consulate office on Tuesday, 9 January 2018. The stars, whose renowned contributions to the Nepalese music and film industries are most praiseworthy, were in Australia to attend New Year Dhamaka organised by Nepco Entertainment at Estonia House in Brunswick West on Saturday, 6 January 2018.
